One thing women need to understand fully before undergoing a breast augmentation is the risk and complications of surgery. Capsular contracture is the most common complications of breast augmentation surgery. Although contracture is not a health hazard in and of itself, it can cause debilitating pain and lead to serious additional complications. This may result in hardening of the breast, chronic breast pain, and an unfavorable cosmetic result.
Another complication of breast augmentation surgery is haematoma. A small percentage of women having a breast augmentation will develop a collection of blood in the wound within the first few days of surgery, was known as a haematoma. Treatment is always required and involves a return to the operating room to drain off the blood and stop any bleeding blood vessels.
Less than two percent of women who have augmentation lose some or all feeling in their nipple and areola, and sometimes throughout the breast.
