Cat flea infestation
The most common nuisance flea is the cat flea. Cat fleas attack a variety of warm-blooded hosts, including humans. Flea infestation can be diagnosed by finding fleas on the cat or by seeing black and white, salt-and-pepper-like grains in the coat. Once fleas become established in a household they may cause itching and irritating to the pets within the household, and may also bite the people living in the house. Humans typically are bitten on the lower legs and ankles. Flea bites on humans is usually more of a nuisance than a serious health problem, although they do itch and may become infected when they are scratched.
If you get a flea infestation, you must eliminate them from your cat and your home. Baths can play a role in removing external parasites such as fleas. Thoroughly vacuum the environment and wash all cat bedding. See your veterinarian if your cat is having skin problems and there’s a lot of fleas around.
